Ancient Greek in Education and the Leadership of the Future

On Friday, 6 February 2026, the Executive MBA of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens successfully hosted an event titled “Ancient Greek in Education and the Leadership of the Future.”

The conference took place at the Alkis Argyriadis Amphitheatre of the University’s Central Building at Propylaea, bringing together distinguished academics, business leaders, and institutional representatives from Greece and abroad.

Opening remarks were delivered by the Rector of NKUA, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, the Vice Rectors, Professor Sofia Papaioannou and Professor Aristeidis Samitas, the Dean of the School of Economics and Political Sciences, Professor Nikolaos Eriotis, the Head of the Department of Business Administration, Professor Dimitrios Thomakos, as well as Professor Dimitrios Kenourgios, member of the University’s Governing Council.

Special mention is due to Mrs. Evgenia Manolidou, Academic Director of “Elliniki Agogi,” whose substantial contribution and active involvement played a decisive role in the overall success of the event.

The Deputy Director of the Executive MBA, Professor Dimitrios Vassiliou, also addressed the audience, highlighting the Program’s mission to bridge academic knowledge with contemporary leadership needs.

Held under the auspices of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, the conference highlighted the enduring value of the Greek language and culture, as well as the ways in which classical studies can inspire modern leadership skills, critical thinking, and managerial effectiveness in the new era shaped by artificial intelligence.

The program featured leading professors from international universities — including the University of Manchester, University of St Andrews, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and the Polis Institute — alongside prominent figures from the Greek business community.

Their presentations emphasized the importance of Ancient Greek as a tool for education, leadership, and intercultural understanding in an increasingly globalized environment.

High attendance, the live online broadcast with simultaneous translation, and the rich dialogue that unfolded throughout the event reaffirmed the Executive MBA’s role as a program that combines academic excellence, extroversion, and innovation, preparing leaders with a deep understanding of both Greek and international realities.

The Executive MBA of NKUA continues to invest in initiatives that promote knowledge, networking, and leadership development, showcasing Greek culture as a source of inspiration for the future. The event stood as yet another example of the Program’s commitment to connecting the Greek intellectual tradition with the contemporary needs of leadership and entrepreneurship.
