Dimitris Thomakos is a graduate of the Department of Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He pursued his postgraduate studies (MA, M.Phil, and Ph.D.) at the Department of Economics, Columbia University, New York, USA, specializing in Theoretical and Applied Econometrics.
His research activity focuses on forecasting methodologies, decision-making processes, and econometric methods with applications across various fields of economics and finance.
Between 1998 and 2003, he served as an Assistant Professor at Florida International University in Miami, USA. In 2005, he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of the Peloponnese. By July 2009, he was promoted to Full Professor in the same department. Since March 2021, he has been a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Business Administration and Organizations at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Dr. Thomakos’s research has been published in peer-reviewed international journals of high academic standing and collective volumes.
His educational and economic policy proposals have been featured in both domestic and international media.
He has supervised more than 20 doctoral theses and three postdoctoral projects.
He serves as Deputy Director of the International Centre of Economic Analysis (Canada), Co-Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Review of Economic Analysis, and is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Forecasting.
Dr. Thomakos is also an external, non-executive member of the Board of Directors at Eurobank Asset Management MFMC, Athens, and Luxembourg (unpaid). He has extensive international experience and collaborates with domestic and international investment firms on computational finance, investment strategy development, and forecasting systems.
He is the Deputy General Scientific Director of the Institute of Continuing Education at the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (voluntary service).
