George Sfakianakis is an economist and Professor of Economic Analysis (with a Ph.D. in Endogenous Economic Growth) at the Department of Business Administration and Organizations, NKUA.
Beyond his academic pursuits and extensive research work, he has held key positions in the past, including serving on the Council of Economic Experts (SOE) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, where he also served as Chair of the Council and Head of the Minister’s Advisory Team.
His duties included representing Greece at the EUROGROUP and ECOFIN Councils (as Deputy to the Minister of Economy and Finance).
He also served as Alternate Governor for Greece at the International Monetary Fund, Representative of the Ministry of Economy and Finance at the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), Head of the Greek Delegation to the OECD Economic Policy Committee, and was responsible for drafting the Stability and Growth Program and the National Reform Program.
He has also served at the Directorate of Macroeconomic Analysis and Forecasting in the General Directorate of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Finance, the Center for Planning and Economic Research (KEPE), and in the private sector.
Additionally, he has been a member of the Boards of Directors of Public Power Corporation S.A. (DEI), Hellenic Industrial Property Organization S.A. (HILPA), the Public Debt Management Agency (PDMA), and the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).
Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors and Director of Studies at the Greek Institute of Economics of Education & Lifelong Learning, Research, and Innovation (INOEK).
His research interests focus (but are not limited to) Macroeconomics, Applied Economics, International Economic Relations, Growth Theory, Money and Capital Markets, Economic Crises, Income Distribution, Economics of Education, Human Capital, and Tourism Economics.
